> DM-LAN Information
Till?

6pm friday night to 12pm saturday afternoon

Where is it?

City Gate Convention Centre
400 Cambridge Road, Mornington
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

How much will it cost?

You can pre-register, which helps us know how many people we expect to see at the lan plus it will only cost you $15 on the night. If you just show up on the night entry will cost you $20. Though we still may not be able to cater for everyone so please be on time.

What do I need to bring?

Every item on the list below is more or less required to play games at a LAN! So you must bring them yourself. We won't be lending cables of any kind;

  • Your Computer, computer display, computer keyboard, computer mouse, mouse pad, and a joystick if you need one.
  • A mains-rated double adapter or a power board if you require more than one power socket.
  • Appropriate power cords. People always seem to forget this one.
  • One Ethernet network cable (CAT5e) which ideally needs to be at least 5 metres long.
  • Headphones (if required, but come on, gaming without sound? You'd have to be joking.)
  • Sleeping gear - You don't want to sleep on your keyboard do you?
  • All of the software needed to make your computer functional.

If you do not own your own piece of network cable, 5-10 metre cables will be available for purchase at a cheap price. If you need more than one power socket, you must bring a power board.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, Lanners that wishes to attend DM-LAN you must be 15+ years of age or older. Parental permission forms are available. This event has be classified MA due to common game content seen around the event.

What tournaments are being run?

The following competitions where run last lan and may change this event;

These are unconfirmed and may change.

Oops I deleted C:\Windows!

Dark-Media is not a computer fixing group. We organize LAN's. So, to be blunt, we will not help you if you have a problem with your computer. We will help with network issues, but if you can't start up a game or even turn on your computer without the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, we can't help you. Because of this, we recommend having a copy of your operating system and all required software/drivers.

Packing up

Before you leave the Dark-Media LAN we would greatly appreciate it if you could throw all your empty pizza boxes, cans, bottles and other rubbish in the bin. And if you are feeling really generous, help pack away tables, sweep the floor etc. This saves the Dark-Media LAN Team a lot of time packing up and ensures we keep happy and doing the LANs in the future.

What do we do about food?

Snacks, drinks and munchies can be purchased over at the admin desk during the event. We also run a dinner and breakfast food run which allows people to order from such places as McDonalds, KFC & Pizza Hut the menu is limited, this closes at 8pm and re-opens for the morning McDonalds food run at 6am.

I have a server/switch or both?

If you wish to bring a dedicated server along you must have your own switch and a power board also make sure your server does not use too much power. Switches are always welcome!

Security

While at our LAN, security of your property is your responsibility. Got it? not ours, 100% yours. So we advice that you don't leave valuables in your car if parked outside, and also that you watch your step carrying out your computer. For IT security, please keep protected with relevant virus scanners and firewall.

What's Black Jaguar Gaming?

Black Jaguar Gaming is a local Tasmanian community that are helping to make Dark-Media LAN’s a more enjoyable time, BJ Team will bring their gaming experiences and equipment to make the LAN a more entertaining event. Black Jaguar Gaming Team are a new addition to the LANing experience within Tasmania and we welcome them to the team. Black Jaguar’s web site: blackjaguargaming.net

Why Pre-Register?

The Pre-Registration system is to help see how many people are going to come to the event, if there are high numbers we organize more tables to be purchased so that there is enough room for people at the event and you also save $5.
